Mulloy brothers celebrating 50 years

THE Mulloy Brothers, the west’s oldest ballad group, celebrate 50 years on stage with an all-star anniversary celebration concert in Mulranny Park Hotel on Saturday next, June 6.

The master of ceremonies for the night will be Irish TV presenter Henry McGlade, writes Tom Gillespie.

The line up will feature Bible Code Sundays from London, Brian Kelly, Kevin Prendergast, James Kilbane, Paddy Joe, the Redmond School of Irish Dancing, Slim Attraction, the Grey Haired Neighbours of Jesus who were popular in the Achill-Mulranny area in the 1980s, Cheers from Achill, Small Tom from Hollymount, The Hog and Hungry Grass as well as the Mulloys.

There will be an evening address by Ambrose Gordon on behalf of the Irish in Britain.

This is going to be a fantastic night,” Henry said. “And if it is anything like the 40th anniversary in Nevin’s, it is something to look forward to. This will be bigger, in a larger venue.”

Tickets cost €10 and are available from Mulranny Park Hotel, Mulranny Post Office, Mulranny Tourist Office and on the door on the night. The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. and Irish TV will be on hand to record the proceedings.

The Mulloy Brothers first started playing in what was then Corrigan's Pub in Mulranny, one of the first singing lounges in Mayo.

The Mulloy Brothers play a range of traditional Irish music featuring all the classics that everyone can identify with.
