How the new extension (centre) will look

Hospital tender process to commence next week

THE proposed €11 million extension to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar will be completed by June 2017, the HSE West has confirmed.

The money for the major redevelopment was secured some time ago by Taoiseach Enda Kenny after HIQA insisted that the facility required extensive development to meet its standards for community nursing home facilities.

The work was initially to be completed by May 2015 to meet HIQA requirements initially, but that date has been extending after the HSE was issued with a notice of proposal 'to continue registration with the usual conditions, including a condition that the reconfiguration of the physical environment is completed by June 2017'.

Stated Tony Canavan, HSE West official: 'This is on schedule and the tender process will commence next week.'

He was responding to a question by Councillor Lisa Chambers.
