Mulranny resident elizabeth celebates her 103rd birthday

A BIG congratulations to Elizabeth McGowan who has celebrated her 103rd birthday.

A resident of St. Brendan's Unit in Mulranny, she was presented with her third Uachtaran na hEireann medal by Dr. Jerry Cowley.

Elizabeth (nee McManamon) was born on Inishbiggle Island on October 10, 1912. She worked like many others on the potato fields of Scotland.

She married her husband, Frank Sonny McGowan, in 1937 and reared eight children - Roger, Packie, Martin, Frank, Nora, Margaret, Mary (RIP) and Betty - and lived most of her life in Claggan, Ballycroy.

She was joined by family members and friends for the big birthday bash in St. Brendan's.
