Flooding at Ballylahan Bridge, Straide

A number of Mayo's main roads remain closed

A NUMBER of roads remain closed in Mayo today due to flooding.

The R312 Belmullet to Castlebar road is closed at Beltra as the lake has gone over the road. The diversions are via the Windy Gap and also on the R311 Newport Road.

The N60 Balla to Claremorris Road is closed west of Heathlawn crossroads, a diversion being created is on the Rathduff local road.

However, Mayo County Council is advising people to avoid this area if possible as the local diversion is not capable of handling a large volume of traffic.

The Partry to Westport road is impassable about 9 k.m. from Westport and the Railway Bridge is flooded on the Ballinrobe Road in Westport. The Westport to Leenane Road remains closed to traffic.

There is also a local traffic diversion in Westport town as the bridge across the Mall is closed to traffic and there is flooding at the back of the library in the town.

The Claremorris/Ballinrobe Road is closed at Derrymore River with a diversion at Mayfield via Newbrook/Robeen for Ballinrobe.

The R334 Ballinrobe-Headford Road is closed in two locations, at Creevagh Cross north of The Neale and at Glencorrib. Traffic going to Cong from Ballinrobe should use the N84 to Kilmaine and divert via Cross and The Neale.

The main road at Ballylahan Bridge, Straide, is closed on both sides. Motorists travelling from Foxford towards Castlebar should go via Pontoon. Those coming from the Ballina direction towards Foxford should head to Swinford.

There is also flooding in the Hazel Court Estate in Cornaroya in Ballinrobe, with a number of homes under water in the area.
