Song Sparks project culminates in live performance

MUSIC Generation Mayo, in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland and Songbirds Ireland, have been working with young musicians and singers in Mayo aged from 13 to 18 years, collectively known as Song Sparks, in an exciting music project to develop their songwriting and musical skills.

The project has been taking place at the Youth Music Hub in Ballina since September and will culminate in a live performance of new works at Ballina Arts Centre tomorrow (December 12) at 7 p.m.

During the project, participants engaged in a series of weekend workshops that focused on the songwriting process from sketch to demo to a final recording of their song/music.

Recordings of new songs will be released early in the new year and all involved are excited to try out the new songs in their debut performance this weekend.

Songbirds Ireland's Carol Keogh, Miriam Ingram and Colin Morris have worked with the young musicians to develop structure and harmony in their compositions, as well as looking at topics such as arrangement, music appreciation, recording and live performance tips.

All are welcome to attend the performance and support young musicians from across the county.
