Recent deaths in County Mayo

IT is with deep regret we record the deaths of the many people in the county who passed away in the past week (October 31 to November 6). May their gentle souls rest in peace. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved families.

Burial took place on Wednesday in Slievemore Cemetery following Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, Pollagh. 

 

Nancy Carney, Straide

 

Nancy Carney (née Golden), Gurteen, Straide, Foxford, and late of Moyhenna, Breaffy, and Kilmactranny, Co. Sligo.

Requiem Mass took place in St. Peter and Paul’s Church, Straide, followed by burial in the New Cemetery.

 

Kathleen Costello, Belcarra

 

Kathleen Costello (née Foy), Kinnally, Belcarra, Castlebar.

Requiem Mass took place in St. Anne’s Church, Belcarra, followed by burial in Guestian Cemetery.

 

Lily Carmel Dunleavy, Killasser

 

Lily Carmel Dunleavy, Carramore, Killasser, Swinford.

Interment took place  in Killasser Cemetery following Requiem Mass in All Saints Church, Killasser.

 

Joan Allen, Ballina

 

Joan Allen (née Slater), formerly of Garden Street, Ballina.

In her 98th year, she is sadly missed by her family, Sean, Philomena, Sr. Collette, Mary, Joanie, Bernadette, Teresa, Eileen and Josephine, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John.

Burial took place in Leigue Cemetery following Requiem Mass in St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina. 

 

Mai Flanagan, Ballina

 

Mai Flanagan (née Whyte), Moate, Castlehill, Ballina, wife of Paddy and mother of Martin, Maureen and Caroline. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Esther, son-in-law P.J., grandchildren Natalie, Shane, Stephen, Brian and Keith, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.

Interment took place at Kilmurry Cemetery following Requiem Mass in the Church of Our Lady, Kilmurry.

 

Christopher Heneghan, Geesala

 

Christopher Heneghan, Dunshaughlin, Meath, and originally of Doolough, Geesala.

Beloved husband of Freda, father of Nuala, Ann, Brendan and Rosemary and grandfather of Roy and Lena. Christopher is also survived by his children-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Burial took place in Dunshaughlin Cemetery.

 

Mary Carey, Belmullet and Shrule

 

Mary Carey (née Dooley), Gladree, Belmullet, and formerly of Shrule.

Beloved wife of Thomas, she will be sadly missed by her sons Mark, Brian, T.J., David, Padraig and Raymond, daughters Annette, Marie, Finola, Jacinta and Aishling, sisters Teresa, Nora and Ann, brother Paddy, grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by her brother Peter.

Burial took place in Tarmoncarra Cemetery following Requiem Mass in the Church of the Holy Family, Carne, Belmullet.

Maureen Hanlon, Hollymount

 

Maureen Hanlon (née McTigue), Ballyfermot, Dublin, and formerly of Hollymount.

She was wife of the late William and mother of William, Angela, Maura, Paul, Michael, Kevin, Bernadette, Fergus and the late baby Martin.

She is also survived by her sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, 23 grandchildren and her 21 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Burial took place in Palmerstown Cemetery.

He was predeceased by his parents Tim and May and brother Paddy.

Tim is survived by his wife Imelda, family Derek, Orla, Kenneth, Annette, Conor and Elaine, brothers Tommy, Ignatius, Muredach, Archie, Vinnie and Fr. Francis, grandchildren, son-in-law Peter, daughters-in-law Teresa and Eithne, extended family, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Burial took place in Leigue Cemetery following Requiem Mass in St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina.

Requiem Mass took place in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, and proceeded afterwards to Mount Jerome Crematorium, Dublin.

 

Mary Gallagher, Swinford

 

Mary Gallagher, Roselawn, Tramore, Co. Waterford, and formerly of Esker, Swinford.

A former Eircom worker, she was sister of Joe and Sr. Regina. She will also be sadly missed by her nieces, relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass took place in Holy Cross Church, Tramore, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

 

Sarah Hardiman, Shrule

 

Sarah (Sadie) Hardiman, (née Murphy), Windfort, Headford, Galway, and formerly of Mochara, Shrule.

She is survived by her daughters Máirín O'Reilly (Oldcastle, Co. Meath) and Nora (Taylor's Hill, Galway), son-in-law Brendan, Nora's partner Michael, grandchildren Keith, Oran and Próinsias, brother Mattie (Mochara), nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas.

Burial took place in Cloughanover Cemetery following Requiem Mass in St. Mary's Church, Headford.

Sadly missed by his sister Margaret (Cork), sisters-in-law Bridie and Christine and all his nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

He was predeceased by his wife Margaret and brothers Tommy, John and Jay.

Reqiuem Mass was celebrated in Knock Church with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Interment took place in Bohernabreena Cemetery following Requiem Mass in St. Colmcille’s Church, Knocklyon.
