HAVE you stood in some lately?

We're talking dog poo, of course, and the issue was raised this week on his Facebook page by Westport councillor Brendan Mulroy.

He explained: “I have got a lot of complaints on this subject in the last couple of weeks and to be fair, most dog owners do dispose of dog litter correctly.

Unfortunately, there are dog owners out there who show no regard for walkers or runners on our greenways and also for users of our footpaths. I would ask if you have a dog please make sure you clean up after it.' #itisnotalottoask.

Some of the online comments in response to Councillor Mulroy's appeals included the following:

Martin Nee: No excuse. If you have a dog and walk it in public places bring a bag...a glove...use your sock...not acceptable to allow people walk in your dog's shit or expect people to clean it up. I'm a dog owner and use the greenway a lot and finding it annoying to see dogs litter all over it. It's a great amenity, free to use for all, and a shame to see it been abused by a few.

Joe Walsh: I wud like to see some of those people's places where they live. How clean are their houses.

Elisa Hegarty: The area of greenway around the Quay School is disgusting and covered in mess. As a dog owner I always carry a nappy sack to pick up my dogs mess. You can get 100 bags for €1.50 in the euro shop so hardly breaking the bank. If you are a responsible dog owner with any community consider you would pick it up, no excuses.

Mary Duffy: If there were a few fines people might get the message. Only answer to that.
