Traffic plan in place for Westport cycling event

THE Westportif Leisure Cycle 2017 takes place on Saturday next, May 13.

 

The organising committee would like to make authorities, road users and local communities aware of potential disruption to roads because of the cycle event. 

With over 1000 people traveling from all over the country to participate, traffic will be busy particularly on the day of the race, in Westport Town.

On Saturday 13th, the participants will be signing on for the race from 6.30 am to 9.30 am at the Leisure park on James Street, Westport, with the cyclist heading off from Westport from 9 am.

The town of Westport will be busy with participants and bikes from 9 am to 10 am especially James St, The Mall, Bridge Street, Shop Street, and Quay Street, before departing for Louisburgh on the R335 to Ashleigh Falls.

The cycle will then spilt with the 80k route going North onto the N59 to Westport and the 120/160k routes turning South for Leenane and Innagh Valley R334 joining the N59 at Recess via Maam Cross R336. See map below for more details.

The return journey will see cyclist on the R300 to Tourmakeady with the final few kilometres on the Cordarragh - Lankill rd via the N59 at Westport.

Most of the participants will be off the roads by 4pm.

The Westportif Event Village will be at the Clew Bay hotel James St and will be busy from 2-8pm.

N.B. The Westportif Cycle is not a closed road event. Cyclists and other road users must adhere to the normal rules of the road.

The Westportif committee thank all road users for their patience and apologise for any delays caused.

Please remember to give cyclists 1.5m when over-taking.

Friday at Monaghan’s Skoda Showroom, Castlebar from 3.30 pm – 8 pm

Saturday at Westport Leisure Park, Westport from 6.30 am – 8 am for 120/160k ï‚·

Saturday at Westport Leisure Park, Westport from 7.30 am – 9.3 0am for 80k

Note: All cycles will start from Westport Leisure Centre, James Street in Westport town with each route starting at different times.

Maam Cross 12:20 to 1.45 pm

Maam 12:30 to 2 pm
