Telephone scam is back in action so don't answer a call if you get one

THE scam callers are back in action, The Connaught Telegraph has learned.

Members of the Mayo public have started receIving calls again from numbers beginning with 231, 212, 235 or 269.

The Connaught Telegraph's Facebook site attracted a huge response when it first issued a warning to its readers last month about the fraud which costs people money if they answer a call or return a missed call.

People are advised to neither answer the call nor ring back to avoid being conned.

The calls initially stopped following the alert, but the fraudsters are at it again from their bases in a number of locations in Africa.

A reader called The Connaught Telegraph today asked us to put out a new appeal.
