Westport woman's death marks the end of an era

THE death has occurred of Margaret Meaney, (née Staunton), Altamount Street, Westport.

Her passing brings to a close the long line of islanders who lived on Innishgowla Island, Clew Bay.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Mary, sons Jim and John, grandchildren Jim, Conor, Nancy, Isobel, Aoife, Briena, Anna and Seanie, daughters-in-law Jackie and Siobhan, brothers Fr. Jim (Australia) and Gerard (England), sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews, grreat grandnieces, other relatives, the many members of the extended Meaney and Staunton families and a large circle of treasured friends and wonderful neighbours.

She was predeceased by her husband Jim, parents Thomas and Brigid, brothers John, Aidan, Tommy, Colm and Fr. Joe, sisters Frances-Teresa, Briena and Maureen (Sr. Enda).

Her remains will be reposing at her home tomorrow (Friday) from 2pm with removal to St. Mary's Church, Westport at 6.30 p.m., arriving for 7 p.m.

Mass of the Resurrection takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m. with burial afterwards in Aughavale Cemetery.
