IDA to appoint liaison officer to Mayo data centre plan

THE IDA is to appoint a liaison officer to Mayo County Council in relation to the proposed data centre at Killala.

The news has been welcomed by Mayo Fianna Fáil Depeuty Dara Calleary.

He stated: “I had written to the IDA earlier this year outlining the merits of the Asahi site in Killala. The IDA has set out a number of criteria, including proximity to a high voltage electricity network, high voltage substations, fibre networks and access to a national motorway network.

“The Killala site ticks all of these boxes and more. In fact, not only does meet the power and broadband requirements, it also has access to a transatlantic cable, which provides a telecommunications link between Ireland and the US

“I am pleased that the IDA has now decided to appoint a liaison officer who can assist Mayo County Council in progressing its application, and who can keep members updated on the process.

“The construction of a data centre would provide a major economic boost to the county and would inspire confidence in the workforce here.

“I will be continuing to engage with the IDA and Mayo County Council to ensure that this bid is progressed and that the Killala site is given the proper consideration it deserves”.
