St. Patrick's Day parade committee step down

THE holding of a St. Patrick's Day parade in Castlebar is in doubt unless new volunteers come forward to organise it this year.

The Castlebar St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, at a recent meeting, decided to step down due to members’ work commitments.

A statement issued on behalf of the committee by Ger Deere, secretary, stated: 'The current members have been involved for many years, bringing great celebrations to Castlebar ever year for the annual parade.

'They feel now it is an opportunity for new people to take over and build on the success already there.

'The committee would like to thank everyone who participated in the parades, the volunteers, the business people who dug deep into their pockets every year and everyone who helped make St. Patrick’s Day a special day in Castlebar.'
