Note the name of Amy Dowling as ladies football continues to prosper

THE CONNAUGHT TELEGRAPH YOUNG SPORTS STARS OF THE YEAR NO. 22:

IF ladies football is to continue to grow and prosper - and all the signs are pretty good, given what was produced in 2017 - then note the name of Amy Dowling who is likely to feature at both club and county level in the years ahead.

She is being recognised with an award for her contribution to the success of Carnacon, who claimed the All-Ireland club title in December, but equally impressive was the contribution this young lady made in getting Mayo to an All-Ireland final meeting with Dublin. She was one of the main reasons why Mayo toppled Cork - the reigning champions - in the All-Ireland semi-final, but her best football came with her club as Carnacon reached the top once more to claim their eighth All-Ireland title.

Amy was a key figure playing at centre half-forward, with tenacity and determination just some of the attributes she brings to her game, while she can also score goals.
