The Tavern is Bar of the Year double finalist

AWARD winning pub The Tavern in Murrisk has reached the final stages of the 2018 Bar of the Year awards in two categories – Outstanding Customer Service and Gastro Bar Food of the Year.

This is a huge accolade for the iconic pink pub which is run by Myles and Ruth O’Brien.

As head of the customer service team, Ruth is delighted with their nomination: “I’m just so proud of my team,” she said. “They are an exceptional group of people and it’s just wonderful to see that being acknowledged by the industry.”

According to Jacinta O’Rourke from Ashville Media, the Bar of the Year Awards organisers: “We have had a record number of entries this year and the competition was fierce.”

The finalists were chosen after a rigorous selection process including site inspections and judging visits throughout the country.

The food at The Tavern is hugely popular with locals and visitors alike. The lobster tank is a real draw with fresh, delicious Clew Bay lobster available all through the season.

The Tavern is also automatically shortlisted for the Southern Comfort People's Choice Award which is decided by a public online vote. Voting opens on Tuesday, July 17, at 12 noon and runs until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8.

Last year The Tavern consolidated its position as a leading gastro pub, winning the Best Wild Atlantic Way Restaurant at the Gold Medal Awards and once again featuring in the prestigious Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide - one of just 32 pubs in all of Ireland.
