Old phone box will be a life-saver

THE Heart of Westport phone box AED will be officially launched by Minister Michael Ring tomorrow afternoon (Friday, 2 p.m.) at the old phone box at the clock in Westport and Town Hall Theatre.

Following months of work and close cooperation between Westport Order of Malta, Westport Tidy Towns, Westport Men's Shed and Mayo County Council, a 24-hour public access automated external defibrillator has been procured, funded and installed by Westport Order of Malta in the decommissioned phone box.

This initiative is part of the nationwide Heart of Ireland project which has seen over 20 such structures used for AEDs.

Westport Tidy Towns funded the restoration work to the phone box, which was carried out by Westport Men's Shed. All of this activity was carried out voluntarily by members of the respective organisations.
