Celebrity chef films with Mayo family
A MAYO family will feature on TV show Tastes Like Home next Monday, December 3.
Celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio visited the home of Lorcan and Betty Cribben in Castlebar where they cooked their daughter Colleen's favourite meal.
From there, the show follows Catherine to Cyprus where she cooks the same meal for Colleen.
Tastes Like Home is a cooking and travel show which follows families living in Ireland as they share their quintessential family favourite recipe, and bring a taste of home to a loved one living abroad.
While in Mayo, the TV crew filmed around Lough Lannagh and Catherine also enjoyed part of the greenway from Castlebar to Turlough, with walking officer Ann Connor on hand with advice and details.
The Kilcourse family, owners of the Bike Clinic in Castlebar, also helped out with equipment for the crew, and Mulroy's Londis, Castlebar, featured as Londis is main sponsor of the programme.
While Catherine cooked Colleen her dad's glazed ham, Colleen, an accomplished author, who has lived in Cyprus for over five years, presented her with her just released new book, For Once In My Life.
Colleen already has three best-sellers under the belt – all available from Amazon and www.colleencolemanbooks.com.
In the programme, to be aired on RTÉ One at 7.30 p.m. on Monday, December 3, Lorcan shows Catherine how to make his honey glazed ham, parsley sauce, buttery mash and baby carrots - daughter Colleen's most missed dish.
The show opens with Catherine spending time cycling on the greenway with Betty and Lorcan before the Tastes Like Home team take to the skies and travel to Larnaka in Cyprus to meet Colleen, husband Julian and twins Elizabeth and Sadie.
Here it’s Catherine’s job to re-create the much-loved recipe from home along with another dish - Catherine’s roasted red and yellow pepper salad with feta and orange dressing.
During the episode, Catherine visits Larnaka, a city on the southern coast of Cyprus, and takes in some famous landmarks and goes on a food tour.
Said Colleen of the experience: “It was an absolute pleasure from start to finish meeting with Catherine and the crew. We visited all our favourite places and made the most of everything Cyprus has to offer; we ate the most wonderful Cypriot food but of course the crowning glory was the taste from home, when I walked into the kitchen and smelt the honey and cloves of my father’s baked ham.
“As an author, I spend a lot of time imagining and remembering special moments, but the homely scent of this family meal cooking in the oven transported me and I found myself overwhelmed with emotion.”
