Top national award for St. Mary’s SS, Ballina
St. Mary’s Secondary School, Ballina, has won the PDST Wellread National Award.
This is a national initiative designed and organised by the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) to create a heightened awareness of the importance of a culture of reading in school communities for young people, as part of their personal and academic development.
Principal Robert O’Reilly, literacy coordinator Angela Donoghue and senior students Grace Ferguson and Lorna Salmon represented the wider school community at the awards ceremony in Dublin on Tuesday last (November 27).
The literacy team initiatives undertaken included book clubs, 'Drop Everything and Read', a vibrant and busy Literacy Week, a pop-up book shop, a visiting writer, book tasting, and the creation of a new school library.
