Debate raging over Mayo petrol and diesel prices

A MAJOR debate is raging over petrol prices in Mayo.

It was sparked off by a question posed on The Connaught Telegraph's Facebook page by Paul Carney.

He asked: “Can anybody explain why petrol and diesel is so expensive in Castlebar compared to Foxford, Ballina and Crossmolina? It is up to 16 cents per litre higher in some cases.”

In his post Mr. Carney showed the price per litre of petrol at one outlet in Castlebar as 1.43 per litre for petrol compared to 127.8 at an outlet in Foxford.

The difference in the price of a litre of diesel at the two outlets was 136.9 compared to 124.8.

His question attracted over 100 comments from throughout the county with many wondering why there is such a difference in prices.

However, Cosgrove's Garage, Westport Road, Castlebar, posted on their own Facebook page that their prices were very competitive.
