Grace O'Malley in London

As part of the celebration of St. Brigid's Day on February 1 at the Irish Embassy in London, Castlebar-born author Anne Chambers will be interviewed before an invited audience by Roisin Ingle, Irish Times correspondent, on Grace O'Malley - The Woman Behind the Legend.

Anne said: “I am delighted to bring the true story of Grace O'Malley back to London, where she made such an impact over 400 years ago, and especially now at this time when she shines as an inspirational beacon to what women everywhere can achieve, like her, even in the most deamanding and difficult environments.”

Excerpts from Anne's play Matriarchs, which concerns the meeting of Grace O'Malley and Queen Elizabeth I and part of which was first showcased in Westport Town Hall Theatre in Feile Cuan Modh last year, will also be performed at the event by the celebrated actress Olwen Fouere. A production of the full play is being planned to take place in London later this year.
