Warning issued to motorists over storm conditions in Mayo

A WARNING has been issued to motorists in Mayo due to storm conditions across the county tonight.

People from different parts of the county have been in touch with Mid West Radio to inform listeners about fallen trees at different locations.

They include on the main roads near Hollymount and Bangor as well as at Rathduff Bridge in Ballina.

Trees are down at Callow and Pontoon Road in Foxford, Councillor Neil Cruise has posted on his Facebook page.

A tree is blocking the roadway at Churchfield, Knock, while a tree is down on the Claremorris to Ballyhaunis road near the turn to Bekan.

A stray bull is also reported to be on the main road between Bohola and Kiltimagh.

Mayo and Roscommon GAA fans travelling home from tonight's National League match in Castlebar are advised to exercise caution.

The strong winds had a big impact on the match, greatly reducing its entertainment value before the home side emerged winners by a single point.

Met Èireann had issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Mayo. It came into effect at 7 p.m. and runs until 7 a.m. tomorrow.
