Would Uber style hackney service work for rural areas?

IS an Uber style hackney service the cure for rural transport deficiencies?

Minister of State Jim Daly has recommended to Transport Minister Shane Ross that an Uber style hackney service would be very appropriate in rural and remote areas.

The service, he says, would help tackle social isolation. It is badly needed in light of the new drink driving regime that has been introduced and now that people have further to travel due to the closure of local post offices. Many rural dwellers are finding themselves stranded because they don't have an appropriate means of transport.

The issue will be debated on TG4'S '7 Lá' programme tonight (Tuesday) at 7.30 p.m, with guests Minister of State Jim Daly and Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív.
