'Extreme caution' urged in Mayo due to Storm Erik

AA Roadwatch is urging motorists in Mayo to exercise extreme caution today as a result of Storm Erik.

The strong winds and gusts across the country have made driving conditions very dangerous.

The threat exists of fallen trees and flying debris at some locations.

A general warning is also issued to cyclists and pedestrians.

The Irish Coast Guard is advised the public to stay away from exposed coastal areas.

The Status Orange wind warning for Mayo is due to end at 1 p.m. but conditions will remain gusty for most of today and into tomorrow.
