THE contract has been awarded for the €11.2 million runway upgrading works at Ireland West Airport Knock, according to national media reports.

Langan Airport Maintenance and Clare Civil Engineering were successful in securing the tender.

Work is expected to get underway on resurfacing the runway in May.

It is the first time the runway will be resurfaced since the airport opened 34 years ago.
