The late Amy Gill

Tremendous response to Bring Amy Home fund

THE 'Bring Amy Home' fund, set up to repatriate Mayo girl Amy Gill, who died in a traffic accident in Australia midweek, has received phenomenal support in the past 24 hours.

Since being established yesterday by Amy's cousins to meet the enormous costs with having Amy brought home to Mayo, it has already doubled its €15,000 target.

Amy (23), from Coolaght, Kiltimagh, had only started her Australian adventure in recent weeks. She was tragically killed in an accident on her way to work on Wednesday last.

Overnight the GoFundMe appeal received a tremendous reaction, with donations pouring in to bring Amy home to her family.

An update posted today by Leanne Gill extended thanks to everyone for their support: “From the very bottom of our hearts we cannot even begin to express our sincere thanks to each and every one of you who has donated so far. We never believed we would reach our target. Not to mention within a few hours. We are blown away.

“This hopefully has covered the cost of Amy’s flight home. We are going to keep the page open and accept donations as we are still unsure the exact amount we will need to cover the cost of Amy’s repatriation.

“We hope to use other funds for funeral arrangements as well as all arrangements that need to be made in Melbourne. We will keep you all updated when we find out more details in the coming days. Meanwhile please continue to share. And again thank you so much.”
