Passing of former outdoor staff member of Mayo County Council

MICHAEL Neary, a former member of the outdoor staff of Mayo County Council, has passed away, aged 66, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Ballina.

He lived at Sheeaune, Burren, Castlebar.

Warmhearted and friendly, Michael was well known and popular.

Prior to his employment with Mayo County Council, he worked as a barman in both the Welcome Inn Hotel (1970s) and later the Quare Fella pub Rush Street (now the Harp Bar).

On is recent retirement from the county council, many tributes were paid to Michael for his hard work and dedication.

For decades, the worked on the roads of Mayo on tarring and other maintenance duties.

Due to his occupation, he was fondly described in the community as 'Councillor Neary'.

His remains will be reposing at The Coady Funeral Home this evening (Wednesday) from 5 o clock until 7 o clock with removal to St Michael's Church, Crimlin.

Requiem Mass takes place on Thursday at 12 noon with funeral afterwards to Castlebar Old Cemetery.
