Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 2: Shauna Heffernan

Next to feature in our Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards list is Shauna Heffernan from Claremorris.

Shauna won a national tennis title by defeating Zara Ryan from Dublin in the final of the 2018 National Junior Spring Championships, held in Clontarf. She batlled through a tough first set to win 7-5 but powered past her opponent in the second to win it 6-1. Shauna, seeded number two in the event, had a tough route to the final but never failed to retain her composure and remained focused.

The achievement is all the more notworthy considering she was restricted from playing tennis for the most part of 2017 due to several injuries.

Shauna then brought the momentum from winning the National Junior Indoors to compete very strongly in international events in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
