Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 9: Maeve Gallagher

Another Swinford native, triathlete Maeve Gallagher, features next in our Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winners.

Maeve began last year by winning the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country title in Waterford, and the following day she claimed the Irish National Junior Duathlon Championship in Letterkenny.

A part of the Irish Triathlon team, Maeve competed at a number of European Cup triathlons. The highlight of these races was when Maeve won a silver medal at the Romanian event.

Maeve was also on the podium at the Irish National Junior Road Race, securing a silver medal. She raced her first ever Ras na mBan and as a result of her superb cycle against some of the best in the country, she was selected to represent the Irish cycling team at the World Championships in Innsbruck, Austria, where again this very talented teenager raced with the best and came 26th out of 102 competitors.
