Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 18: Sorcha McAllister

Athletics features next in our look at the monthly winners in our Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards.

Sorcha McAllister has been involved in athletics since she was 10 years of age but it is only in the past few years that the Westport athlete has begun to realise her true potential.

In January 2018 she scored a decisive win in the Athletics Ireland National Under 23 Indoor 1,500m and followed it up with a third place finish in the 3,000m at the Intervarsity Indoor Championships and a fourth place finish at the National Intervarsity Cross Country Championships, leading Trinity College to a third place team finish.

Sorcha then moved into the outdoor track season, first taking gold in the Intervarsity Outdoor 3,000m and then silver in the Athletics Ireland Under 23 1,500m championship race.

At the All-Ireland Cross Country Championships she took silver and secured a place on Ireland’s European Cross Country team, giving Sorcha her much deserved first international vest.
