Macra na Feirme election campaign trail begins

The Macra na Feirme 2019 election hustings are about to get under way.

Rural youth organisation Macra na Feirme is seeking three vice-presidents (in Leinster, Munster and the North-West) to join president elect Thomas Duffy in office for 2019-2021.

Husting events are taking place around the country, where issues facing Macra na Feirme and rural Ireland will be discussed.

All hustings begin at 8 p.m., starting tonight (Wednesday, March 13) in the Oakwood Hotel, Shannon, Co. Clare, before moving on to the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris, Co. Mayo, next Monday (March 18).

The remaining hustings take place as follows: Wednesday, March 20, in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan, Co. Meath; Monday, March 25, in the Vienna Woods Hotel, Glanmire, Co. Cork; and Wednesday, March 27, in the Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim.

The North-West vice-president candidates are Shane Quigley from Castlebar Macra and Fergus O’Rourke from Carrigallen Macra (Leitrim).

The date for the issuing of ballot papers is Wednesday, March 20, and the close of receipt of ballot papers is April 10 (election day) at 1 p.m.
