€100,000 for heritage buildings

EIGHT heritage buildings in Mayo have been allocated €102,000 to conserve and enhance their historic structures for the benefit of communities and the public.

Minister Michael Ring has confirmed the following locations have been allocated funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme which supports owners and custodians to care for our built heritage:

Ballinrobe House, High Street, Ballinrobe - external wall pointing and render (€15,000).

Church of St. Charles the Martyr, Hollymount - cast-iron spire reinstatement (€5,000).

Valley House, Valley, Achill - window repairs (€14,562).

St. Peter & Paul's RC Church, Straide - rainwater goods/repair/replacement (€14,844).

Greaghans House, Greaghans - window repairs (€5,990).

Ballyglass House, Scardaune, Claremorris - window repairs (€4,604).

Two other buildings have been allocated funding under the Historic Structures Fund:

Ballysakeery Glebe House, Mullafarry - coach house walls and roof, and works to rainwater goods (€26,000).

St. Catherine's Church, Louisburgh - roof works, cast iron gutters and downpipes (€16,000).

Said Minister Ring: “We are lucky in Mayo to have a unique built environment of extraordinary quality. Our historic buildings and structures are a vital part of our heritage.

While the primary responsibility to care for and maintain a protected structure rests with the owner, these funds enable important capital investment in our valuable built heritage. It will help the owners and custodians of historic structures to safeguard them for future generations.”
