Mayo church bells to sound again after protracted silence

THE bells of St. Mary's Church in Westport are to sound again after being silent for more than a year.

They will ring out across the town on Easter Saturday night, April 20, after repair works were carried out.

The bells were silenced last year after they were deemed unsafe.

Local curate Fr. Charlie McDonnell said it will be a delight to hear them again.

"The bells will sound the arrival of Easter as well as marking the completion of our church renovations," he stated.

He thanked parishioners for their patience during the church renovation project over the past four years.
