Canine canvassers join Mayo local election campaign!

POLITICS may be a dog's life at times.

But one local election candidate in Mayo has turned to his four-legged friends to help capture the public's imagination.

Castlebar Fine Gael candidate Ger Deere has been accompanied on the canvass trail in recent days by brother and sister Juno and Koby, wrapped in 'Vote No. 1 for Ger Deere' coats.

The bijon shih tzu duo are owned by two of his best supporters, his wife Pauline and good friend Ann Cresham.

Said Ger: “It's a bit of a novelty in an election campaign in which there are no election poster in the Castlebar area for the first time.

“So the two dogs have helped us bring a touch of colour and fun to the canvass trail.”
