Michael O’Malley, King of the Roads, launches new book

WHEN Michael O’Malley, Ballynew, Castlebar, resigned from the outdoor staff of Mayo County Council forty years ago, he was embarking on a very serious challenge.

His job with the council was permanent and pensionable.

But Michael, hard-working, determined and ambitious, has never been afraid of a challenge.

A fine handballer and golfer, those who have played with Michael over the years know he is a man who fights a dogged battle but always in a fair and sportsmanlike manner.

Recently, Michael, his wife Nora, family and staff celebrated forty years in the roadmaking and tarmac business.

To mark the occasion they have published a very informative book, appropriately titled ‘The Hard Road’.

It tells in realistic fashion the challenges they have faced and overcome.

The O’Malleys story is one of success in a very competitive field.

They have completed a number of major schemes in different parts of the country and have built up a splendid reputation in the roadmaking business across Ireland as a firm which pays attention to every detail, whether the job on hands is a small or large one.

Those projects stand as a fitting monument to Michael O’Malley and his staff, an enduring reminder to what genuine workmanship, commitment and dedication is all about.

Most of all, Michael and Nora O’Malley, despite their success, have never lost the common touch.

Michael is a native of Carrajames, Belcarra, and his wife Nora, formerly Grimes, comes from Ringeraun, Ballyheane.

Good luck to Michael and Nora O’Malley, family and staff for many more years of successful trading.

No wonder Michael is known as King of the Roads.
