Mayo SIPTU members working in Coca-Cola consider industrial action

SIPTU representatives have confirmed that members working in Coca-Cola are considering industrial action as part of a campaign to secure collective bargaining rights at its plant in Ballina.

The dispute centres on two Labour Court recommendations where the court found in favour of SIPTU’s claim for negotiation rights for workers in membership of the union.

SIPTU industrial organiser, Denis Gormalley, said: “Our members have shown great patience with the company in pursuing their right to collectively bargain.

"They have been extremely conciliatory throughout this process. However, the company has proved dismissive of their legitimate claim.

“Our members believe that they must consider industrial action in an attempt to bring this dispute to a resolution.”

He added: “We will continue our consultation with our members in the coming weeks and all avenues available to us, including industrial action.”
