Dog fouling issue in cemeteries

Dog fouling issue in cemeteries

DOG fouling is a continuing issue in both the new and old cemetery in Castlebar.

The problem peaks from 7.30 to 9 a.m., Councillor Martin McLoughlin told a municipal district meeting, asking if the litter warden could attend in the area around these times.

Graves are being damaged and I'm asking for it to be policed at that time of the morning,” he said.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said his understanding was that there has only ever been one ticket issued.

Senior engineer Ann Sweeney pointed out that quite a number of people had been advised to go back and remove their pet's fouling.

Wardens should be at the cemeteries and the adjacent lake, Councillor Kilcoyne said, as children are walking into dog fouling and it's being picked up on the wheels of buggies.

Councillor Al McDonnell pointed out that he has met with dog owners who act responsibly but when they pick up their pet's fouling there's no place to put it.
