Done and dusted in Belmullet

AS predicted by the tally, Sinn Fein Councillor Teresa Whelan has lost her Mayo County Council seat.

The final result in the Belmullet electoral area has been announced at the count centre in Castlebar, which confirms the election of two Fianna Fáil councillors and one Fine Gael councillor in the three-seat area.

Gerry Coyle (FG) and Paul McNamara (FF) are outgoing councillors who have secured re-election, while Sean Carey (FF) is the newcomer who won the race with Whelan for the third seat in the Belmullet area.

Whelan had been co-opted to Mayo County Council in place of Senator Rose-Conway Walsh in 2016.
