Mayo firm set to double its workforce

A MAYO company is in the process of doubling its workforce in an expansion programme.

Kilkelly-based Big Red Barn, is inundated with requests for its products, modular builds and commercial premises.

As a result, it is expanding its plant which will bring its workforce to 65.

Senator Michelle Mulherin said its market is predominately exports to the US and UK markets.

She made her comments in the context of the Irish government being 'behind the time' in respect of providing a quick solution to the housing and homelessness crisis when Irish companies manufacturing modular units could do so.

"When people enquire about modular builds, they run into issues with government policy which is geared towards brick and mortar rather that modular builds. This needs to change," she added.
