Investors purchase 17-acre site at prime Castlebar commercial location

LOCAL investors have acquired 17 acres of commercial lands at Breaffy Road in Castlebar.

The site is located to the rear of Woodies and Monaghan Motors where there are a number of developments already in the pipeline.

The land has roads and sewerage services on site, a major plus for potential developers.

Welcoming the news, Councillor Cyril Burke said he is optimistic of work starting at the location in the near future.

"Because of its proximity to the recently announced Meissner project, I don't expect the site will be vacant for too long.

"There is a requirement going forward for companies who service multinational companies to have a base close to their plant.

"This development, when it happens, will also provide space for local indigenous companies to purchase sites for their own companies as heretofore there were very few serviced commercial sites available.

"I believe the site has the potential to deliver another 300 jobs to the town which is fantastic news as everyone benefits from the job creation element in particular.

"The lands have been purchased by a local developer and the lands are expected to be developed in the short term," he said.
