Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Irish Rugby international Lindsay Peat and Chief Marketing Officer of Google Lorraine Twohill were among the awardees at lDCU Alumni Awards at the Helix on DCU’s Glasnevin campus.

The Castlebar TD's award was in recogniition of outstanding achievement for leadership during his time as An Taoiseach.

The other awardees were managing director at BT Ireland, Shay Walsh and Head of the Loreto Schools in Rumbek, Sr. Orla Treacy.

The Alumni Awards recognise outstanding achievement at a national or international level and honour alumni who, through their exceptional ability and leadership, have achieved excellence in their chosen fields of endeavour.

Their accomplishments across so many aspects of society are a source of great pride to DCU and an inspiration to present and future generations of DCU students.

The event has grown significantly in the intervening years with this year’s ceremony honouring sixteen alumni – five with an Outstanding Achievement Award and eleven being awarded a place on The Alumni Wall where their photographs and biographies are placed in both of DCU’s O’Reilly and Cregan libraries in Glasnevin and Drumcondra.

Brian MacCraith, President of DCU, said: “Our 2019 Alumni award recipients are the embodiment of this university’s mission to ‘transform lives and societies’.

“Their contributions reflect the values that DCU hopes to imbue in all its graduates - determination, ambition, innovation, social responsibility, and ethical leadership. They are the best possible examples of why we, at DCU, are so proud of our alumni, and their achievements.”
