Top Mayo cyclist recovering in hospital from serious injury

A TOP Mayo cyclist is recovering in hospital from serious injuries sustained in a crash.

Castlebar's Trevor Costello, a member of Islandeady Cycling Club, broke his femur when his bike went out of control after skidding on an oil spill on the Windy Gap, near Bofeenaun, at the weekend.

He was removed by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital and later underwent extensive surgery.

Three other riders with him also skidded at the location but escaped with relatively minor cuts and bruises.

Trevor had been in training for the Paris -Brest - Paris long distance challenge in August.

Cycling clubs across the county have been extending best wishes to Trevor via their social media platforms.
