GP to take up Lahardane post

THE vacant GP's position in Lahardane has been filled.

Senator Michelle Mulherin has received confirmation from the HSE that Dr. Enda Loftus will take up the position on February 1.

Locals had been concerned over the lack of a permanent GP in the village, hosting a public meeting on the issue in August.

Said Senator Mulherin: “This is great news for the people of Lahardane who have been without a full-time GP since the retirement of Dr. Paul Nolan in 2018. I would like to extend best wishes to Dr. Loftus in his new post.”

She added: “The difficulties in the recruitment and retention of Irish medics continues to be a challenge with many towns struggling to replace doctors who retire or move on to a fresh challenge.

In this regard, I would like to thank the HSE for their efforts and commitment to providing first class primary care services for the people of Lahardane. Also I would like to compliment the work of the excellent local committee which I was happy to work with.

The HSE has also informed me that they will now advertise the vacant positions in Bangor and Glenamoy as soon as possible.”
