Underdogs taking on Mayo in TG4 series finale
TG4's Underdogs returns to our screens tonight (Thursday) and, at the end of the series, they will be taking on Allianz League champions Mayo.
That match will be played under lights in MacHale Park in Castlebar on Saturday, October 26, and TG4’s GAA Beo will provide live coverage on the night.
This year's Underdogs team features one Mayo player - Fergal Owens from Mayo Gaels.
The Underdogs management team will have two new members joining former Cork ladies footballer Valerie Mulcahy - former Kerry All-Ireland winning captain and manager Mickey Ned O’Sullivan and Gaoth Dobhair legend and former Donegal footballer Kevin Cassidy.
Over the next six dramatic weeks, the series will follow the players’ stories and personal journeys. Viewers will witness the months of preparation and intense training that it will take to transform a squad of Underdogs into a team of inter-county standard footballers.
The Underdogs is a unique group of players, from different GAA clubs all across the country featuring footballers who have never played at a senior intercounty championship level before.
Said Mayo manager James Horan: “We are looking forward to being involved in the Underdogs event this October for a really interesting game in MacHale Park that will see many talented and ambitious players take to the field.”
Underdogs starts tonight (Thursday, September 12) at 9.30 p.m. and will be repeated on Sunday, September 15, at 5.50 p.m., after the TG4 All-Ireland ladies football finals. It will also be available on the player worldwide at www.tg4.ie/player.
Tickets details for the big game in MacHale Park will be announced in the coming weeks.
