Man charged in Wales with murder of Mayo native

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 76-year-old Mayo native who was found dead at a house in Cwmbran earlier this week, Wales Online is reporting.

Stephen Gallagher, 55, has been charged with murder and appeared at Newport Magistrates' Court yesterday

The body of victim Thomas Gallagher, originally from Achill, was discovered at a house in Kidwelly Road at around 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Gallagher, of Kidwelly Road, Cwmbran, appeared in court only to confirm his name and address and nationality as British.

He was remanded in custody and to appear at Cardiff Crown Court today.

Gwent Police launched a murder investigation on Tuesday and a spokesman said: "We are not looking for anyone else at this time."
