Blackie is 'retiring'

CASTLEBAR Councillor Blackie Gavin is retiring, it was announced today. But it's not from politics.

Next month he will step down from the fire service after 34 years.

His retirement from the fire service was revealed by council colleague Michael Kilcoyne at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting this afternoon.

Wishing Councillor Gavin well after more than 30 years service, Councillor Kilcoyne noted that a presentation was taking place on October 25 and he wanted to see an appropriate presentation from the District also.
