Travel Counsellor Emer awarded Gold Status

WESTPORT-based travel specialist Emer McDermott has been acknowledged for her outstanding achievements at a global conference for leading independent travel company, Travel Counsellors.

Emer was among five of the company’s nine ‘gold’ travel counsellors who celebrated their achievements at a five-star resort on the tropical island of Mauritius.

Emer, who opened her own business as part of Travel Counsellors in December 2017, now has Gold Travel Counsellors status along with fellow Irish Travel Counsellors, Mary Foyle, Sarah McCarthy, Mandy Walsh, Lorraine Lawless, Rosemary Chawke, Roger Barrett, Robert Kiernan and Jennifer O’Brien.

With 82 Travel Counsellors running their own businesses in Ireland, 11% have the prestigious ‘Gold’ status. This is the highest percentage globally after the UK, at 13%.

Commenting on the acknowledgement, Emer said: “It is an incredible honour to be awarded ‘Gold’ status for work that I am so passionate about. To hold such a highly regarded status, along with eight fellow Travel Counsellors in Ireland, makes me extremely proud of my achievements and my business.”

General Manager of Travel Counsellors Ireland, Cathy Burke, said: “We are delighted to celebrate Emer’s ‘Gold’ status. She set up her own business just two years ago, and her hard work and unrivalled service have ensured she is now one of the top performing Travel Counsellors in the country and part of an elite group with ‘Gold’ status globally.

Over 160 Travel Counsellors and suppliers from across Ireland, UK, UAE, The Netherlands, South Africa and Australia attended the weekend in Mauritius.
