Fun and football for Castlebar Gaelic4Mothers & Others

THE Gaelic4Mothers & Others initiative sees women playing Gaelic football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment. It provides an opportunity for women to return to the game or learn to play, as well as avail of really good exercise in a fun way while meeting other mothers/women locally.

It started in Castlebar in the summer of 2018, under Castlebar Mitchels, and has now completed two very successful seasons which saw participation in local and national blitzes, friendly games, a beach training day trip to Achill and weekly training sessions, as well as many post-event social outings. Events are often family friendly where children also come along and enjoy the day.

Sponsorship for a set of jerseys was gratefully secured from Johnny McHale's Bar this year and plans are already afoot for the 2020 season.

With the demands for next season in mind, the group are holding a fundraiser table quiz in Johnny McHale's Bar on November 22 at 8.30 p.m. There will be fantastic cash prizes for the winners and many, many spot prizes. Tables of four are €40. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

New members are always welcome – there's lots of ‘off season’ activities happening all the time, such as 5k walks/runs, nights out, friendly games, etc.
