Fresh anger over Irish Rail's treatment of Mayo passengers

A FRESH row has erupted over Irish Rail's treatment of Mayo service users.

Only three carriages were provided on yesterday's 7.30 a.m. service from Westport to Heuston Station.

According to a passenger, there was only standing room only after Claremorris Station.

The overcrowding was so bad that buses were provided from Athlone to accommodate the train passengers without seats.

Paul Eustace told The Connaught Telegraph: "What occurred was a monumental failure of our rail transport system.

"Yet our elected representatives have achieved nothing in their efforts to address the situation."
