The Taobh an Chnoic development at Church View Villas, Castlebar

New Mayo housing project ready for its first residents

A NEW Mayo housing project funding by the Rebuilding Ireland initiative is ready to welcome its first residents.

The six-unit Taobh an Chnoic development, located at Church View Villas, Pound Road, Castlebar, has been fully completed following a €900,000 investment by Mayo County Council.

The main contractors for the scheme was Seamus O'Brien Limited.

A previous development on the site had fallen into disrepair and the transformation is very impressive.

In fact, the project represents a sterling example of the high standards being set for social housing in the county at a time of growing demand.

It is envisaged that similar small schemes will be earmarked for other suitable locations close to the urban centre in the years ahead as part of the Rebuilding Ireland programme.

The six units at Pound Road, with their own off-street parking, are due to be allocated shortly.

Meanwhile, Councillor Ger Deere has submitted a motion ahead of the next meeting of Castlebar Municipal District to have the scheme named in honour of Margaret Burke Sheridan.
