Johnny retires from school board after 22 years

JOHNNY Mee has retired as chairman of the board of management of St. Anthony’s School, Castlebar, after 22 years in the role.

The announcement was made during the school’s annual Christmas Mass and Nativity play.

Paying tribute to him on his long commitment and dedication to the school, Ms. Fiona Byrnes, principal, thanked Johnny for everything he did for St. Anthony’s and commended him on the way he brought the education of children with special needs forward in Mayo so many years ago.

The school he started continues to provide a broad education and supports children with special needs and will continue to do so into the future.

A presentation was made by pupil Samuel Kialunda, on behalf of the pupils and staff, and incoming chairperson Joe Staunton to mark Johnny’s official retirement.

He is wished continued good health and happiness in his retirement from all in the school.
