Tributes paid to retired chief fire officer

TRIBUTES have been paid to Seamus Murphy on his recent retirement from the position of chief fire officer for Mayo.

For over 40 years he had made an outstanding contribution to the county, Councillor Blackie Gavin, cathaoirleach, told a meeting of the county council's special policy committee that includes the emergency services on Thursday.

Mr. Murphy, he said, had been very dedicated to the fire service.

“Mayo is a safer place,” he commented, thanks to his work.

Councillor Gavin used the opportunity to compliment all involved in the fire service in Mayo for the work they do.
